Understand the data

  1. A good understanding of the data-model is key to doing a good job on any project. Without understanding the data-model, it is very very difficult to do anything meaningful.
  2. Where is the data? Where is it coming from? Where is it going? What is supposed to happen with this data?
  3. A good understanding of the networking (cookies, UI-backend application interaction, session management, etc.)

Things that can stand in the way of getting a good grasp of the data-model

  1. No proper documentation
  2. No support from teammates

Unfortunately, both of these are very common in teams.

How to overcome these?

  1. Be patient
  2. Always save any details that can help.
