Find the right people that can answer your questions
Who we ask questions matter a lot
I spent a lot of time (sometimes, an entire sprint) not knowing what to do because I was talking to the wrong people. When we have questions, it is very important that we ask the right people (and ignore the wrong people).
Some people purport that they have the answers, that they know what they are doing, that they have a good handle on the architecture, when in reality, they don’t.
Some tips:
- If someone pretends that they have all the answers, something is wrong with that scenario.
- Good developers don’t have all the answers up-front, but they have ways to find information that they don’t know about
- Like digging through legacy code
- Digging through database tables
- Good developers don’t have all the answers up-front, but they have ways to find information that they don’t know about
- If someone has a good understanding of the data model, they have good answers.
- If they can write complex sql queries or views, they are golden.
